Visitor's Welcome Message

Welcome
You may have asked, "Is there a church out there that is not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, is not always following the latest fad, does not rush from gimmick to gimmick?" If that is the kind of church you are looking for, perhaps you would like to visit St. Philip.

We strive to love and serve the Lord in the beauty of holiness, with meekness and sincerity of heart. We are not trying to create a new religion here. We have been given a Lord and Savior, and we have been given the Holy Spirit to lead us into all truth. For doctrine and moral guidance, we believe that the Bible "contains all things necessary for salvation," and the Book of Common Prayer provides a rich tradition of worship that inspires and informs our worship within the Body of Christ.

We don't know what needs you have right now, but if you are like us, Christ can meet your needs. We are not the answer to all that you are seeking, but we have a pretty good idea who is, and we may be able to help you know him. We would love to have the chance.

What is St. Philip like? We are reverent in worship, but we are known for our hospitality and festive occasions, from parish picnics to receptions following the Easter Vigil. We have challenging Bible studies and Sunday morning adult classes throughout the school year, but the men's club serves breakfast on Sundays between services in the summer. I am serious about preaching the Gospel every Sunday and believe that proclaiming the truth of God to the people is a matter of urgent necessity; but if we don't laugh in the sermon pretty often, I don't think I am connecting with my people or being very much like Christ himself, the greatest model for any preacher. Events in the Church and in the world sometimes test our spirits and resolve, but we have unbounded joy and confidence in our resurrected Lord; so how can we be gloomy?

There was a time when some Greeks wanted to see Jesus. The disciples didn't talk them to death, trying to explain who Jesus was. They just said, "Come and see," and they took them to Jesus. In the spirit of those disciples, we at St. Philip invite you to "come and see".
